Software Engineer, Infrastructure - Self Managed Experience (SMX)

Camunda is the enterprise platform for agentic orchestration, enabling organizations to coordinate AI agents, people, and systems across complex, end-to-end business processes. With built-in governance, auditability, and human oversight, Camunda gives enterprises the control they need to move AI from pilots to production — safely and at scale. Trusted by over 700 organizations worldwide, including 9 of top 10 US banks, Camunda helps enterprises boost operational efficiency, accelerate time-to-value, and deliver better customer experiences. Fully remote and global, we are in the middle of something bigger: transforming into an AI-first organisation, built on our own platform. We use Agentic AI to automate, orchestrate intelligent processes, and elevate human contribution across every team. Named GP Bullhound’s Top 100 Next Unicorn list, https://www.gpbullhound.com/articles/top-100-next-unicorns-the-uk-france-and-germany-lead-with-the-most-promising-technology-companies-in-europe/ 2025 Great Place to Work certified. Visionary in 2025 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ https://page.camunda.com/wp-2025-gartner-magic-quadrant-for-boat for Business Orchestration and Automation Technologies. ranked 3rd in Flexa's 2026 Most Flexible Companies https://flexa.careers/companies/camunda, We’re growing fast and looking for top talent to join our team. If you want meaningful work, visible impact and put something genuinely rare on your CV, keep reading. About the role: We're hiring for Self-Managed Experience (SMX) — the team responsible for making Camunda 8 deployable in a self-service way for customers who run their own infrastructure. SMX covers two areas of work: installation artifacts (Helm chart, Docker Compose, C8Run) and reference architectures & cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure). This role sits primarily on the installation artifacts side — building, maintaining, and releasing the artifacts that ship Camunda 8 to every self-managed customer. You'll be fully embedded in that area day-to-day, but you'll work alongside the reference-architecture side of the team regularly, and SMX is actively working toward enabling every engineer to review and contribute across both stacks over time. SMX is also shifting from a purely artifact- and ops-focused team toward one in which engineers bring customer judgment and product sense alongside technical depth. That means engaging directly with the teams closest to customers — Support, Consulting, Presales — and using that signal to help shape what we prioritize, not just executing a fully-specced ticket. You'll find plenty of room to leave your own footprint: deployment automation, software and infrastructure testing, multi-region setups, and developer experience are all live areas of investment as the team matures from "basic install" toward full-lifecycle ownership (upgrades, backup/restore, disaster recovery). Curious about the kind of challenges you'll work on at Camunda? Watch this quick 30-minute talk https://www.camundacon.com/event-session/camundacon-amsterdam-2025/one-exporter-to-rule-them-all-exploring-camunda-exporter/?on_demand=true from our engineers to learn more about the new Camunda Exporter and how we’re solving complex problems at scale What You’ll Be Doing: • Build, maintain, and release C8 distribution artifacts for self-managed customers — Helm Charts (Kubernetes), C8Run, and Docker Compose — along with their documentation. • Improve the reliability and usability of deployment artifacts across the full customer lifecycle: installation, upgrades, and day-2 operations, not just initial deployment. • Engage directly with internal customer-facing teams (Support, Consulting, Presales) to understand real deployment problems, and use that signal to help shape what gets prioritized — not just how it gets built. Collaborate with Development Teams, Product Management, QA, and Documentation to ship integrated, tested, and documented releases. • Take part in the team's shared medic rotation and resolve engineering-level support cases, feeding learnings back into development. • Contribute to the shared tooling (review, deployment, and test tooling) that SMX is building so other Camunda teams can adopt it — this is one of the team's current investment areas. What success looks like (first ~3 months): • Taken on your first medic rotation slot and support tickets to understand the stack, customer challenges, and deployment environments. • Improved onboarding or documentation, turning your own ramp-up experience into concrete improvements. • Contributed to artifact fixes, CI/CD enhancements, or test automation that strengthens release quality. • Deliver structural improvement initiatives — a feature request, or a test/release improvement. • Built working relationships with engineering, QA, and product peers, and started building context on the reference-architecture side of the team. • Started forming your own view of a customer pain point …

The AI orchestration of your wildest imagination. n8n is the open workflow orchestration platform built for the new era of AI. We give technical teams the freedom of code with the speed of no-code, so they can automate faster, smarter, and without limits. Backed by a fiercely inventive community and 500+ builder-approved integrations, we’re changing the way people bring systems together and scale ideas for impact. Since our founding in 2019, we’ve grown into a diverse team of over 260 - working across Europe and the US, connected by a shared builder spirit and with our centre of gravity in Berlin. Along the way, we’ve: • Cultivated a community of more than 650,000 active developers and builders • Earned 190K+ GitHub stars, making us one of the world’s Top 40 most popular projects • Backed by top investors, from Sequoia’s first German seed to our SAP's recent strategic investment - bringing us to a $5.2bn valuation That’s the company we’ve built. Now we’d love to see what you can build. If you’re applying, try n8n out - whether you’re technical or not - and share a screenshot of your first workflow with us. The easiest place to start is here: app.n8n.cloud/register http://app.n8n.cloud/register. We’re in a defining moment of an incredible journey. Come and build with us. AGENTIC ENGINEERING PLATFORM ENGINEER Developer Productivity · AI Coding Agents · Developer Platform Your main goal will be to keep n8n operating as an AI-native engineering organization where agents are embedded across the development cycle; helping teams plan, build, test, review, learn, and improve. You’ll do this by maintaining and evolving the platform foundations, tools, guardrails, and team processes that make agentic development safe, measurable, and sustainable. Working with Developer Platform, Security, AI/Agents, Architecture, and product engineering teams, you’ll help teams continuously adopt what works from frontier AI and make success visible through faster feedback loops, better quality, stronger resilience, and more learning from what we ship: BUILD THE PAVED ROAD FOR AGENTIC DEVELOPMENT • Define safe task categories for autonomous agents, including what they can attempt, what they should never touch, and where additional review is required. • Design and implement isolated execution environments where agents can work without exposing secrets or accessing sensitive systems unnecessarily. • Build pilot workflows that allow selected Linear issues to be picked up by agents, tested, and converted into useful draft PRs. MAKE N8N'S MONOREPO AGENT-READY • Create and maintain repo instructions, agent playbooks, ownership metadata, coding guidelines, and documentation that improve agent performance. • Continuously improve developer workflows, repo structure, testability, and documentation based on where agents succeed, fail, or create reviewer friction. • Partner with Architecture and senior engineers to define boundaries, dependencies, and areas where agents need more context or tighter constraints. INTEGRATE AGENTS INTO ENGINEERING WORKFLOWS • Integrate agentic workflows with Linear, GitHub, CI, test infrastructure, and developer review processes. • Design PR evidence templates that help reviewers understand what changed, why, what tests ran, what risks remain, and where human judgment is needed. • Partner with Security, AI/Agents, Developer Platform, and product engineering teams to define guardrails for sensitive areas like auth, billing, permissions, and data handling. MEASURE QUALITY, SAFETY, AND ADOPTION • Create benchmarks from real historical engineering tasks to evaluate agent output quality, failure modes, test pass rates, review burden, and production risk. • Define quality signals and adoption metrics such as draft PR usefulness rate, reviewer acceptance rate, CI pass rate, rework rate, and developer satisfaction. • Use data and feedback from pilot teams to improve agent workflows, reduce unsafe attempts, and build trust across engineering. REQUIREMENTS MUST-HAVES • Autonomous coding agents: You have experience with autonomous coding agents, AI coding platforms, agent orchestration systems, or internal AI developer tooling. • Agentic development experience: You have practical experience building, deploying, or operating AI-assisted or agentic software development workflows that work with developers not besides them. • Strong engineering foundations: You have a strong software engineering background, ideally in platform engineering, developer experience, infrastructure, tooling, CI/CD, or engineering productivity. • Ambiguity leadership: You’re comfortable leading a first-of-a-kind technical initiative from problem definition through pilot, adoption, measurement, and iteration. • Modern engineering workflows: You deeply understand GitHub, CI, testing strategies, code review, monorepos, issue tracking, developer environments, …

What you’ll do: • Investigate and troubleshoot customer and support issues end-to-end – reproduce, find the root cause, and ship reliable fixes in a timely manner • Maintain and stabilize the existing codebase, keeping it compatible across multiple Jira Data Center versions and database vendors • Keep the product current and secure – upgrade dependencies, address CVEs, and adapt to new Jira and database releases • Support customers migrating between environments, including Data Center Cloud paths • Make targeted improvements and enhancements • Write and maintain unit and integration tests to protect against regressions • Participate in peer code reviews, upholding coding standards and best practices (our code is also gated by automated quality and security checks) • Work with our GitHub-based CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) – keeping builds green, and running and releasing the product through the automated pipeline • Work closely with support, QA, PMs, and other stakeholders, and build durable, shareable knowledge of the product and its BI integrations Tech Stack • Back-end: Java 8, Spring (via the Atlassian Plugin SDK / Spring Scanner), Maven, REST APIs, SQL across multiple relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server) • Front-end: TypeScript, React, Redux / Redux Toolkit, Vite, Jest & React Testing Library • Platform & tooling: Atlassian Jira Data Center (P2 plugin), Git & GitHub, GitHub Actions (CI/CD), automated code-quality and security checks Who you are: • 3+ years of relevant full-stack work experience • Solid back-end experience with Java and the Spring ecosystem (dependency injection, REST controllers); comfortable reading and safely changing an existing framework-based codebase rather than only greenfield work • Good command of relational databases and SQL, with the judgment to debug data correctness and query-performance issues (bonus across more than one vendor – PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server) • Practical experience maintaining production UIs with React (hooks, component composition) and TypeScript in a typed codebase • Familiarity with state management (Redux / Redux Toolkit, MobX, or comparable) and a modern front-end build tool (Vite or Webpack) • Good understanding of OOP, common design patterns, and automated testing • Highly analytical, with a genuine passion for debugging – reproducing hard-to-repeat issues and chasing them to their real root cause is a core part of this role • A sense of ownership – able to work with autonomy, comfortable picking up unfamiliar areas and support tickets and driving them to resolution • Good communication skills in English (B2+ …

Senior Software Engineer - Platform & Infrastructure (f/m/d)

The product you will work on The HOLOPLOT Matrix Array is a new type of sound system built around precise, software-defined control of sound in three dimensions - grounded in physics and implemented through a combination of custom hardware and purpose-built software. HOLOPLOT deployed Matrix Arrays in various venues, including the Sphere in Las Vegas - the world’s most advanced entertainment venue and, notably, home to the world’s largest audio installation in entertainment. Audio processing in HOLOPLOT systems is distributed: every loudspeaker runs embedded Linux, and hundreds of them have to be configured, coordinated, monitored, and updated as one system. This is enabled by multiple open source and in-house developed services running on an on-premises Kubernetes cluster. AWS-hosted services connect venues to remote monitoring, telemetry, and configuration. Many venues are air-gapped or only intermittently connected for remote servicing, and that constraint shapes most of the design decisions in the platform. The ideal candidate is We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who builds the platform our sound systems run on, and who takes responsibility for how it behaves in production. This is a software engineering role first. You will spend your time writing software, either with your own team or embedded with one of the other HOLOPLOT teams: services, controllers, agents, and tooling that provision, configure, observe, and update our systems. Our infrastructure is defined as code and evolves through the same review and release process as the rest of our software. You design the operational side, you build it, and you are on call when it misbehaves in the field. Your role and responsibilities You will join the team that owns the platform underneath our installations and connected services, working alongside backend, embedded, and frontend engineers who are organized in cross-functional product teams. Build the platform • Architect and implement services to provision, configure, and manage server fleets across AWS and local clusters. • Create control-plane logic for venue systems to ensure consistency, health monitoring, rollout management, and recovery, even during uplink disruptions. • Establish end-to-end provisioning workflows for embedded Linux hardware, spanning from initial manufacturing to customer deployment. • Enhance update processes to streamline software deployments for active customer installations. • Develop APIs and developer tooling that empower engineering teams to independently deploy, observe, and troubleshoot their services. • Embed telemetry capabilities into the platform to facilitate remote diagnosis of venue system behavior • . Run what you build • Own the AWS infrastructure behind our connected services: remote access, access control, telemetry ingestion, remote backup, secret management, and monitoring. All of it is infrastructure as code. • Operate and evolve the on-premises Kubernetes footprint at venues, including air-gapped and intermittently connected installations. • Monitor large environments, investigate problems across the software/hardware boundary, and turn each incident into a fix in the code. • Be part of a compensated on-call rotation Set the technical direction • Advise and collaborate with product teams on building distributed systems that are scalable, secure, and observable, and review their designs with production reality in mind. • Research and introduce tools and technologies where they measurably improve how we build and operate. • Contribute back to the open-source projects we depend on, through issues and fixes. What you need to succeed in this role • Several years of professional software engineering experience, most of it spent designing and shipping production systems. • Fluency in software engineering as a craft: concurrency, error handling, testing, and designing APIs that other teams build on. • Working knowledge of the Kubernetes control plane and the operator/controller pattern, including how clusters behave when they are unhealthy. • Hands-on experience with AWS, and a firm belief in infrastructure as code. Terraform and Ansible are what we use today. • Comfort across several languages, and the ability to pick up a new one when the problem calls for it. Our platform work is mostly Go and Python, with Rust and C++ elsewhere in the stack. • Experience building distributed systems, and a clear understanding of how they fail: partitions, partial rollouts, clock skew, retries, and reconciliation. • A good sense for software architecture and maintainability, and the habit of writing code that colleagues can pick up and change. • A strong command of Linux, scripting, and automation. • Experience instrumenting software for telemetry and using it to answer real questions about running systems. • Good judgment about what to automate and what to leave alone. • Strong communication skills in English. You can explain a …
