Engineering Manager - Control Plane Platform Engineer

Remote ✓EN
C

About the team The Control Plane Platform team is building the shared foundation that every product in ClickHouse Cloud is built and shipped on. We give ClickHouse engineering teams one place to own and deploy their product, remove the overhead of rebuilding common plumbing, and keep the customer experience consistent as the number of integrating teams grows. The team owns API gateways and API standards, shared platform services, deployment and infrastructure patterns, testing and CI, local developer experience and Control Plane observability. About the role We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Platform team. This is a high-impact, high-trust role at the center of our Cloud product, combining people leadership, technical direction, product thinking, and operational ownership while maintaining the reliability customers expect. You’ll work hand-in-hand with Product, Infrastructure, Security, Support, and engineering teams across ClickHouse. This role goes beyond engineering leadership. Together with your team, you’ll help shape how new products and teams will integrate and deploy their applications in ClickHouse Cloud. What You’ll Do • Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team - recruit to a high bar, set crisp expectations, give direct feedback and career development, and manage performance — while fostering a healthy, inclusive environment built on empathy, psychological safety, trust, and a high technical bar. • Own outcomes across the platform surface: API gateways and API standards, shared platform services (event bus, notifications, feature flags, websockets, audit records), deployment and infrastructure patterns, CI and testing, local developer experience, disaster recovery, and Control Plane observability. • Treat the integrating teams as your customers and measure success by their delivery velocity and adoption of the platform, not only by what your team ships. • Guide architecture and help senior engineers make explicit, sound tradeoffs. land cross-cutting migrations, deprecations, and contract changes across teams without stalling product delivery. • Jump into designs and code for complex areas - gateway routing and auth/RBAC enforcement, spec-driven code generation, event delivery semantics and idempotency, multi-region rollout safety. • Build the culture of operational excellence: Own SLOs, reliability, on-call quality, and cost-efficiency for k8s-hosted, multi-tenant services across cloud regions. • Systematize support, reduce toil, and build self-serve/auto-healing capabilities - golden-path templates and generators, auto-healing, and documentation that gets a new team integrated in days rather than weeks. • Shape the platform vision, turn it into a roadmap, sequence bets for business impact, and ship fast with tight feedback loops — including writing the RFCs that build cross-org consensus before big changes land What you bring • 8+ years in software engineering and 3+ years managing software engineers with a track record of hiring, developing, and retaining strong talent. • Experience leading a platform or infrastructure team whose customers are other engineering teams — you've driven adoption and cross-org migrations through influence and good tooling rather than mandate. • Experience leading distributed global teams, fostering an inclusive and autonomous culture, and creating clarity across time zones. • Experience building scalable, highly available, and secure cloud-based infrastructure in AWS (EKS, SQS, DocumentDB, Redis, PostgreSQL, Lambdas) with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Helm) and progressive delivery (Argo Rollouts or similar). • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), including patterns for hosting many independently deployed applications in a shared cluster. • Familiarity with API platform work: OpenAPI-driven contracts, API gateways, and the shared concerns they centralize — authentication, RBAC, rate limiting, versioning, and deprecation. • A track record of decomposing a monolith into independently deployable services without stalling product delivery. • Technical credibility to engage deeply in architecture and incidents without owning daily implementation. • Hands-on: you still enjoy diving into code/designs for complex or critical areas, reviewing code, and guiding via feedback. • Strong execution judgment across ambiguity, parallel workstreams, risk, and long-term system health. Nice to have • Experience with large TypeScript/Node monorepos and the developer-experience problems that come with them: CI scale and flakiness, build and test times, local development environments, and code generation from specs. • Designed and implemented strategies for load balancing, auto-scaling, disaster recovery, and failover for cloud environments. • Experience building CI/CD at scale • Experience with internal developer platforms: service catalogs, golden-path templates, and …

This role is part of our ScraperAPI team, one of our growing brands at saas.group . ScraperAPI is an enterprise-scale web scraping solution, trusted by businesses across a wide range of industries to extract crucial data at scale. From e-commerce, travel to real estate and market research, we support companies in turning the web into actionable insights. We're currently on an exciting growth journey, scaling rapidly as demand for reliable, high-performance web scraping and data keeps rising. Profile Overview This is the hard end of web scraping. The sites we rely on, Google, Amazon, Walmart and many others, actively work to block us, and they change the rules without warning. We're looking for a senior engineer who can go deep on why we're being blocked, work out how the detection actually functions, and design repeatable ways around it. You'll be joining a self-driven, high-autonomy team to take on our most involved problems, with the room and the trust to build something from close to a blank page: an environment that turns one-off breakthroughs into a methodical, repeatable way of defeating anti-bot systems. If you like confronting problems that genuinely resist you, and you work methodically rather than by trial and error, this is an unusually open brief. Your immediate impact in the first 3-6 months will be: • Getting a full local environment running and becoming fluent in our systems and how they operate, in the first few weeks. • Contributing to a proposal on the design for a repeatable environment we can pose anti-bot problems to and get reliable analysis out of. • Building that environment out over the following months so that, by month six, we can point it at a target or provider and have it reliably tell us how we're being blocked and what is and isn't being used against us. Your responsibilities • Analyse how specific anti-bot and bot-mitigation systems (the likes of DataDome, Cloudflare Turnstile, Kasada, PerimeterX and Akamai) detect and block us, and design systems to work around them. • Turn isolated breakthroughs into durable, repeatable processes: hypothesis, test, discard what's wrong, move on. • In collaboration with other senior team members, design and build a greenfield agentic environment that can propose and run tests on anti-bot behaviour and bypass approaches, and do it in a way that's well understood and repeatable. • Work largely independently on deep, concentrated problems, while actively pulling in knowledge from across the wider engineering team. • Communicate clearly what you plan to do, and step into major incidents when the team needs your depth. What you bring to the table • Deep, genuine understanding of how the internet works underneath: HTTP, TLS and fingerprinting, proxies, headers, cookies, and browser behaviour. This is the core of the role and it isn't something we can shortcut. • Excellent problem-solving built on a scientific, methodical approach: you form a hypothesis, design a test, read the result honestly, and iterate. Trying things at random is the opposite of what this role needs. • Strong hands-on skills in our stack, Node.js and TypeScript with solid Python, and comfort across backend systems at scale (Postgres, Redis/Valkey, MongoDB, Puppeteer/Camoufox, Kubernetes). • Real skill at directing AI coding agents with precision, and the judgement to tell strong output from weak. The specific tool doesn't matter (Claude, Codex or similar); knowing how to steer it well is what counts. • A background that has given you this kind of depth and rigour. That might be scraping, anti-bot or web-security work, reverse engineering, or a research or academic path where you built your own tooling and lived by the scientific method. Direct scraping experience is a strong plus rather than a strict requirement. • Independence and strong communication: you're comfortable owning hard problems in a remote-first team with little hand-holding, and you keep the team in the loop on your thinking as you go. What's in it for you • Ultimate flexibility: We're 100% remote. You can work from wherever you like, whenever you like. • Freedom and autonomy: We're a high-trust team, and you'll be given lots of flexibility to solve problems in your own way, with plenty of help from the team when you need it. • Minimum bureaucracy: We don't like to get bogged down with meetings and red tape. We like to be efficient and keep momentum steady & sustainable. • Small & friendly team: We help each other out, have fun, and joke around. • Our network: We are a community of entrepreneurial SaaS professionals that regularly exchange ideas, knowledge, learning and expertise with each other internally. • Flexible time off: We want you to recharge your batteries when needed. ScraperAPI is part of saas.group and we have a shared goal of succeeding together. What is saas.group? Think of us as the driving catalyst behind your favorite software success stories. saas.group, …

STAFF SOFTWARE ENGINEER, BACKEND ABOUT STREAM Stream powers real-time Chat https://getstream.io/chat/, Video https://getstream.io/video/, Activity Feeds https://getstream.io/activity-feeds/, and AI Moderation https://getstream.io/moderation/ for more than 1 billion end users across 4,000+ apps, from Strava and Bumble to eBay and Patreon. Our platform processes billions of API requests per month and supports applications with millions of concurrent users, while delivering highly reliable, low-latency services and a great developer experience. THE ROLE We’re looking for Staff Software Engineers. You’ll join our Chat or Activity Feeds team and own backend systems that thousands of developers build their products on, from how they’re structured to how they scale. This is a full-time role based in our Amsterdam (visa & relocation support possible), Toronto, or Skopje office. We are also open to hiring the right person remote from the EU. ABOUT YOU You’ve built backend systems at high scale and stayed long enough to live with your own decisions, good and bad. You care about how a system is structured, not only the next feature, and you can explain your trade-offs to the people who’ll live with them. Maybe you led a team for a few years and chose to go back to hands-on work. That’s welcome here: this is an individual contributor role, and you’ll write code and touch databases yourself. Our leads spend about 80% of their time hands-on too. You won’t enjoy it if you want to manage people, or if you’d rather stay away from infrastructure and database work. We’re also hiring Senior Engineers on these teams. If your experience fits Senior better than Staff, we’ll say so openly and talk it through with you. YOU HAVE • Extensive backend engineering experience, including technical leadership on systems in production. • Proficiency in Go, Python, or in another backend language plus the willingness to switch to Go. • Experience building features used by a large number of users, and scaling them as usage grows. • Strong experience with a relational database. We use PostgreSQL, but any relational database counts. • Hands-on experience with Redis or a similar in-memory data store. • Experience building public APIs or SDKs that other developers use. • Comfort with infrastructure and database work as part of your normal week, including Kubernetes. • Good written and spoken English. It’s our working language. BONUS POINTS • PostgreSQL in production at scale, including sharding, partitioning or large migrations. • Experience improving or redesigning legacy parts of a system that’s serving live traffic. • Go and gRPC in production at high request rates. • Messaging, feeds or other real-time systems, or message queues such as RabbitMQ or Kafka. • Distributed storage internals, such as Raft or RocksDB. • You’ve cut infrastructure cost at a company where margins mattered. • Experience running workloads on GCP or AWS. Don’t worry if you haven’t used every tool we run. You’ll get exposure to most of them, and you’re welcome to convince us to add your favorites. WHAT MAKES THIS ROLE EXCITING • Scale: more than 1 billion end users and billions of API requests a month go through the systems you’ll own. • Impact: cost per message and query latency show up directly in our margins and in the apps of customers like Strava and Patreon. • Stack: Go, gRPC, RocksDB and Python; PostgreSQL and RabbitMQ; GCP and Kubernetes; Grafana, Prometheus, ELK (Elasticsearch and Kibana), Jaeger and Tempo for distributed tracing, and Datadog; Redis, Valkey and Memcached. • Starting point: you’ll ship to production in your first weeks and own a meaningful area within your first months. WHAT WE OFFER • Generous compensation • Stock options Amsterdam office benefits: • 28 days paid time off plus Dutch public holidays. • Pension plan with a company contribution. • NS Business Card or a company bike, covered by Stream. • EUR 500 per year for personal development. • Catered lunches in the office. • MacBook Pro. • Up to EUR 60 a month toward a gym or sports club membership of your choice. • Relocation support if you move to Amsterdam, including visa sponsorship as a recognised IND sponsor. Toronto, Skopje and remote EU: local benefits depending on your country of employment. WHY JOIN STREAM? We’re a Series B company with offices in Boulder, Amsterdam, Skopje and Toronto, and a team of 140+ people from 37 nationalities. We’re backed by Felicis Ventures, GGV Capital, 01 Advisors, Techstars, and Arthur Ventures, with angels including Dick Costolo (ex-CEO of Twitter), Olivier Pomel (CEO of Datadog), Tom Preston-Werner (co-founder of GitHub), and Nicolas Dessaigne (co-founder of Algolia). We’ll be straight with you: a startup is more demanding than a large company. There’s no fixed playbook, you’ll own things end to end, and you’ll sometimes pick up work outside your title. …

AI AT ZAPIER At Zapier https://zapier.com/about, we build and use automation every day to make work more efficient, creative, and human. So if you’re using AI tools while applying here - that’s great! We just ask that you use them responsibly and transparently. Check out our guidance on How to Collaborate with AI During Zapier’s Hiring Process https://zapier.com/l/jobs/ai-at-zapier, including how to use AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or others during our hiring process - and when not to. SR. ENGINEER, DATABASE RELIABILITY Hi there! We're looking for a Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) to join the State team at Zapier. We need someone who can set direction on our data infrastructure and isn’t afraid to get into the weeds to solve challenging operational problems. The State team owns the platform behind Zapier's stateful services: our relational database fleet (MySQL and PostgreSQL), a caching layer built on Redis and ElastiCache, and the tooling that lets product teams use it all easily, safely, and reliably. You'll shape our practices around automation, observability, performance, reliability, and disaster recovery, and help make the right way the easy way for the teams building on top of our data layer. This is a senior DBRE role on the State team. You'll be the technical center of gravity for database and cache work: the person other engineers come to for design review, the one setting the bar for how we operate the data layer, and the one responsible for growing the DBRE practice on the team over time. We know applying for and taking on a new job at any company requires a leap of faith. We want you to feel comfortable and excited to apply at Zapier. To help share a bit more about life at Zapier, here are a few resources in addition to the job description that can give you an inside look at what life is like at Zapier. Hopefully, you'll take the leap of faith and apply. Our Commitment to Applicants https://zapier.com/jobs/our-commitment-to-applicantsCulture and Values at Zapier https://zapier.com/jobs/culture-and-values-at-zapier/Zapier Guide to Remote Work https://zapier.com/learn/remote-work/Diversity and Inclusivity at Zapier https://zapier.com/jobs/diversity-and-inclusivity-at-zapier/ Zapier is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace dedicated to pursuing and hiring a diverse workforce. ABOUT YOU You're an experienced database technologist. You have at least 7 years in systems administration, systems engineering, or software development, with at least 4 years running production relational databases. You have deep expertise in MySQL or PostgreSQL and working knowledge of the other, including each engine's ecosystem of extensions and tools. You understand caching (such as Redis) as part of the data layer, how to design and operate it at scale, and the tradeoffs between caching and the database underneath. You know the cloud and treat infrastructure as code. You've designed and maintained highly available, cloud-based database systems in AWS or another cloud platform, and you manage that infrastructure with Terraform or similar IaC tooling rather than by hand. You're comfortable operating stateful services alongside Kubernetes or other distributed systems, and you understand the tradeoffs of running data workloads in and around orchestrated environments. You build and use observability. You've implemented metrics, logging, and alerting for data systems using tools like Datadog, Prometheus, or CloudWatch, and you know the difference between a dashboard that looks good and one that catches problems before customers do. You treat query performance data, replication lag, and cache hit rates as first-class signals. You partner with product teams. Product teams are your customers. When a team comes to you with a design or a problem, you ask about their workload before prescribing a solution, give them options with tradeoffs rather than edicts, and leave them more capable than you found them. You handle support requests with the same care as incident response, you participate in an on-call rotation for production data systems, and you'd rather teach a team to fish than field the same question twice. You document things well so your knowledge can be consumed asynchronously. You raise the bar for the team around you. You're an experienced DBRE on this team, and you treat that as a responsibility. You review peers' designs and give feedback that makes the design better and the engineer sharper. You pair on hard problems when it helps someone else grow. You turn things you've learned the hard way into docs, patterns, and runbooks so the next person doesn't have to learn them the hard way too. You care about the team being more capable a year from now than it is today. You ship code to solve systems problems. You automate repetitive work and build tools that make the team more effective. You're comfortable digging into application code to fix a bug or launching a backend …

You will work remotely first (from Central & Eastern Europe) , but we are more than happy to meet you in our nice offices in Bratislava, Brno or Prague . The Pulsar team builds platform and admin services that all Bloomreach SaaS products rely on. In your first year, you’ll develop features used by thousands of customers and deliver fast, consistent, and high-energy (but low-drama) product releases. We all work remotely from the US, India, and Europe. Examples of our services: • Central services to publish Model Context Protocol APIs for external AI agents • Multi-product customer provisioning and licensing orchestration • Integrated user management, authentication, and authorization • High-availability, centralized configuration management • Tools for new customer integration & product tuning Why you’ll love your work • Technical Variety: Cloud-native services with diverse tech stacks offer learning and experimentation. • Impact: Our services are used by customers and teams across the company – engineers, product managers, services consultants, and even executives. • Autonomy: Senior engineers design, build, and deploy complete projects and are experts in our services. • Teamwork: Your teammates are also high performers and will support you with learning our systems, brainstorming & design review, and running high-reliability production deployments. Your typical day Your day begins with review of a teammate’s GitLab merge request. It has already been reviewed by Claude, but you’ll think deeply about the business problem, alternative solutions, and future needs. Then you spend a few undisturbed hours “in the flow,” working on a technical design doc for a new project. Once you’ve completed a draft, you send it to another teammate for feedback, then decide to jump on a Zoom call to talk it over and refine it. After lunch, you join the team for a quick standup via Zoom to discuss current work and the plan for the next few days. You mention that you’re finishing up a small improvement to improve the logging and alerting for one of our components that requires high uptime. A teammate offers to review your changes. It has some complex behavior, so you walk through it together and make a few improvements. Soon, the new unit tests are green. With a few keystrokes, you create a merge request, spin up a dev instance, and deploy your change. After some quick smoke tests, you and your teammate decide to merge the change. Your improvement will be deployed in production with the release in a few days. Next, you respond to a Slack request for advice on integrating with the authorization API. You draft a short tech design doc that links the API spec, code examples, and optimization tips. You discuss it on the team channel, and your manager forwards it to another team that’s also starting a new service. Your day ends with a chat with a product manager about questions that came up while drafting the tech design. With their feedback, you refine the proposal to deliver the core feature more quickly, while the product manager will work with customers and decide how much more to invest. Tomorrow, you’ll break down the tasks in Jira and decide what you’ll complete yourself and what you’ll ask teammates to complete…. Our tech stack(s) • Languages & Frameworks: Java / Spring, Python, Go – occasionally TypeScript, Angular, React • Data: Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka • Cloud: AWS & GCP (RDS, Redshift, Pub/Sub, BigTable, DataFlow, etc), Docker & Kubernetes (via EKS & GKE) • Tools: Jira, Gitlab CI/CD, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenSearch Our expectations • Flexible intelligence: Stretch your technical skills in a distributed cloud environment, making changes across systems built with various tech stacks to meet challenging …
