How do I convert an hourly wage into a monthly salary?
To turn an hourly wage into a monthly salary in Germany, multiply it by your weekly hours and by 52 weeks and divide by 12 months, so €15 an hour at 40 hours a week is €2,600 gross a month in 2026.
The formula
Monthly gross = hourly wage × weekly hours × 52 ÷ 12 (an average of 4.33 weeks a month). Net = monthly gross minus income tax under the official payroll algorithm (PAP 2026), the solidarity surcharge, church tax if applicable, and the social contributions.
Worked example
Example: €15 × 40 hours × 52 weeks = €31,200 a year, which is €2,600 gross a month. How much of that is net depends on your tax class (Steuerklasse), federal state (Bundesland), children and church-tax status.

How do I work out my hourly wage from a monthly salary?
Hourly wage = monthly salary × 12 ÷ 52 ÷ weekly hours. Example: €3,000 gross a month at 40 hours a week gives 3,000 × 12 ÷ 52 ÷ 40 = €17.31 gross an hour. Switch the calculator above to "Monthly salary" to see the hourly wage gross and net.
The 52 weeks cover the whole year. Paid holiday and public holidays are already included in a monthly salary, so the conversion uses your contractual weekly hours, not the number of days you actually worked.
Why use 4.33 weeks per month?
A year has 52 weeks, spread over 12 months that is 52 ÷ 12 = 4.33 weeks a month. Using only 4 weeks understates the monthly salary by about 8%: €15 at 40 hours a week would give €2,400 instead of €2,600.
How much is the German minimum wage per month in 2026?
The statutory minimum wage in Germany is €13.90 an hour in 2026. At 40 hours a week that is €2,409.33 gross a month, at 20 hours €1,204.67. At 40 hours in tax class 1, €1,716.47 of that is left as net pay (same assumptions as the table).
In a mini-job with its earnings limit of €603 a month, the minimum wage allows at most 43.3 hours a month, which is about 10 hours a week.
Does the calculator include shift premiums?
No, it works from your agreed base wage. Premiums for night, Sunday and public-holiday work are tax-free within limits under section 3b EStG: up to 25% of the base wage for night work (up to 40% in certain night hours), up to 50% for Sunday work and up to 125% for public holidays (up to 150% at Christmas and on 1 May), calculated on a base wage of at most €50 an hour. They are free of social contributions only where the base wage is at most €25 an hour.
There is no general statutory right to such premiums, they come from your employment contract or a collective agreement. For night work, section 6 (5) ArbZG requires fair compensation, either as a premium or as paid time off.
How your hourly wage becomes net salary
Monthly gross = hourly wage × weekly hours × 52 weeks, divided by 12 months, i.e. an average of 4.33 weeks per month (13/3 weeks). Example: €15/hour at 40 hours a week gives €2,600 monthly gross.
From the monthly gross, this calculator deducts income tax under the official German payroll algorithm (PAP 2026), plus the solidarity surcharge, church tax if applicable, and the social contributions (pension, unemployment, health and long-term care insurance).
Part-time work does not change the method: tax is progressive on the actual gross salary, so fewer hours mean lower gross pay and therefore a lower average tax rate, not a different formula.
The statutory minimum wage in Germany is €13.90 per hour in 2026; pay below that is not allowed for regular employment.
